Our ongoing analysis of online discussion about this card type.
Hong Kong rewards credit cards feature generous sign-up bonuses and high earn rates on foreign transactions alongside substantial perks like lounge access and travel insurance, though they typically carry higher annual fees than US equivalents and generally require applicants to demonstrate strong financial profiles and Hong Kong or Macau residency.
Rewards cards earn points, a cash-like rewards currency or miles on your spending. In Hong Kong most banks pay a low base rate on all spend and a higher rate on set categories, such as dining, online shopping or foreign currency spend, up to a cap.
Some currencies, such as HSBC's RewardCash or Hang Seng's Fun Dollars, are worth a fixed cash amount. Others are points you can swap for vouchers, a statement credit or airline miles. If miles are your goal, compare Asia Miles cards.
How to choose a rewards card
Start with where you spend. A card that pays more on dining is worth little if most of your spend is on groceries or bills. Then check the cap: once you reach it, the rest of your spend earns the base rate.
Look at what a point is worth when you redeem it, any fee to convert points to miles, and the annual fee. Some bonus rates need you to register for the offer or choose your categories first.
Watch the exclusions
Banks leave some spend out of their rewards schemes, often insurance premiums, tax and utility payments, e-wallet top-ups and online bill payments. Each bank lists its exclusions in the card's terms.
Rewards credit card FAQs
HSBC's rewards currency. One RewardCash dollar is worth HK$1 off your bill, or it can be converted to airline miles. Other banks use their own names, such as Hang Seng's Fun Dollars and DBS$, so we show each card's rate in the bank's own unit.
Do rewards cards usually have a minimum monthly spend to earn points?

No minimum spend applies on most rewards cards: points accrue per dollar from the first transaction. A card's sign-up bonus is different and often does carry a minimum-spend condition within a set window, so check that separately from the ongoing earn rate.
